Hi, my name’s Rio Young, I’m 24 and I’m an up-and-coming rapper/lyricist from North East London. I recently graduated from the University Of East London, where I studied BA Hons Music Culture and I’ve worked extensively within the youth sector visiting a variety of prisons, PRUS (Pupil Referral Units) and schools with a group called ‘Spark 2 Life’, an organisation that aims to empower and encourage disengaged young people from underprivileged sections of society. I started this musical journey alongside a group called ‘Da Fellowship’ and we recorded together for their debut EP.

Since then, I’ve been flying solo and working hard to evolve my own unique sound. I’ve had the pleasure of performing alongside some of the UK’s most established grime acts and I’ve been supported by the likes of BBC Radio 1 (Annie Mac on the Zane Lowe Show), BBC Radio 1Xtra (BBC Introducing artist of the week), BBC Introducing London, The Kiss Hip-Hop show, BangFM, DropOut UK, GRM Daily and SBTV.

Right now I’m in the studio with Nathaniel Ledwidge (aka Detonate) and some other young up and coming producers. Nate is Labrinth’s lead keys player and MD has produced for the likes of Conor Maynard & Tyler James.
